Basketball Recap: Trinidad Takes a Loss

Trinidad was the 32-29 winner over Sierra Grande when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trinidad Miners received a blow on Thursday as they fell 41-25 to the Sierra Grande Panthers. The Miners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Trinidad saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maya Morales posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Sierra Grande got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylyn Quezada out in front who went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points and seven steals. Sierra Grande is 10-1 when Quezada posts five or more steals, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Eneria Quintana, who shot 43% from the field to rack up 14 points along with five boards and four steals.

Trinidad's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Sierra Grande, their record now sits at 13-9.

Trinidad has already played their next matchup, a 39-38 defeat against South Park on the 1st. As for Sierra Grande, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 39-32 win against Creede on the 1st.
