Skyline hasn't had much luck against Spearville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Thunderbirds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Spearville will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Skyline extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds put the hurt on Ellis with a sharp 13-5 win. That's two games straight that the Thunderbirds have won by exactly eight runs.
Corbin Armstrong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Gaby Eubank was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kooper Wesley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Skyline kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Spearville hadn't done well against Ellsworth recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lancers blew past the Bearcats 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Cheyenne Ackerman was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Madison McGee, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Spearville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season. As for Skyline, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Skyline has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Spearville struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyline came out on top in a nail-biter against Spearville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. Will the Thunderbirds repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
