Softball Recap: East River Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but East River ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Timber Creek Wolves 4-3. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Katherine Sanchez spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, East River's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Lorenzo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Lorenzo has posted since back in April of 2024.

Lorenzo wasn't the only one making solid contact: East River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

East River pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Timber Creek, they moved to 8-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East River will take on Colonial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grenadiers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.35 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Timber Creek, they will face off against Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
