Baseball Recap: Steel Valley Comes Up Short

Steel Valley had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it four. They came up short against the South Allegheny Gladiators, falling 16-0. The Ironmen were not able to make up for their defeat to the Gladiators from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for South Allegheny, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The contest marked their most dominant victory of the season.

For South Allegheny's part, Josh Jackowski made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off seven hits. Jackowski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those hits were his first of the season.

In other batting news, South Allegheny got a massive performance out of Koltin Keener, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Keener a new career-high. Mason Campano was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Steel Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
