Basketball Game Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Sweeny Bulldogs

Wharton is 8-1 against Sweeny since January of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wharton Tigers will be playing at home against the Sweeny Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Wharton's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Sweeny has been banged up by 12 consecutive losses on the road.

Wharton will bounce into Friday's game after beating Brazosport, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Wharton made off with a 66-65 win over Brazosport.

Wharton relied on the efforts of Jacoryan Dickerson, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Jameir Hearne-Robinson, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Dickerson's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Keilon Jackson, who posted five points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Wharton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Sweeny played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 105-31 loss at the hands of La Marque. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-13.

Wharton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Sweeny, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-23.

Everything came up roses for Wharton against Sweeny in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 66-38 victory. Does Wharton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sweeny turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
