Softball Game Preview: Marion Mustangs vs. Bowler/Gresham Community Panthers

Marion is a perfect 3-0 against Bowler/Gresham Community since April of 2025 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will take on the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Bowler/Gresham Community took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Marion, who comes in off a win.

Marion is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Northland Lutheran on Thursday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Wildcats. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Bowler/Gresham Community took on Northland Lutheran last Monday. The Panthers took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Lizzy May made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Romi Kapelke was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The win got Marion back to even at 5-5-1. As for Bowler/Gresham Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Marion got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Bowler/Gresham Community by a conclusive 23-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
