The North Point Eagles will square off against the Leonardtown Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North Point is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past St. Charles 22-1 on Thursday. The Eagles have beaten St. Charles the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest St. Charles has come to flipping the script.
Alyssa Blaney and Sophia Weedin were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Blaney struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Weedin pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Blaney got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one RBI, while Weedin got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emily Yanick and Aminah Ayyad did most of the damage at the plate: Yanick went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Ayyad got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Yanick has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Scott, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
North Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .533. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Leonardtown came tearing into Friday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Braves. The game was the first time the Raiders have beaten the Braves on their field since May 19, 2021.
Claire Radford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Vanessa Brooks was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Lindsay Hunter was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
North Point's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Leonardtown, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Leonardtown struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Point might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Leonardtown in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
