Basketball Game Preview: Gateway Olympians vs. Aurora Central Trojans

Gateway and Aurora Central are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Gateway Olympians will head out to face off against the Aurora Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Gateway came up short against Skyline and fell 80-70.

Meanwhile, Aurora Central beat Skyview 54-44 on Thursday.

Gateway better keep an eye on Alejandro (Alex) Flores. He was instrumental in Aurora Central's win, going 8 of 12 en route to 23 points and three steals. Flores is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Deon Davis Jr was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 12 points and eight boards.

Aurora Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Aurora Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Gateway, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Gateway lost to Aurora Central on the road by a decisive 67-51 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Flores, who went 10 of 17 en route to 28 points and four steals.
