Softball Game Preview: Varina Blue Devils vs. Hermitage Panthers

The Varina Blue Devils will face off against the Hermitage Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Varina will be strutting in after a win while Hermitage will be coming in after a defeat.

Varina is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 19-18 victory over Hopewell. Varina hasn't had any issues with Hopewell recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Julia Anderson, who went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rylee Geer, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Hermitage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Highland Springs.

Varina suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Hermitage in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Varina avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
