Leilani Mendez turned in yet another pitching appearance with more than eight strikeouts on Thursday. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those hits were her first of the season.

Looking ahead, Mendez and Elmwood Park will look to defend their home field on Friday against Leyden at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers have some work to do to even out the 2-7 series between these two since April of 2015, but a win here would be a good start.
