Hamilton hit Mantachie with a five-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs came up short against the Lions, falling 11-4. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Vardaman put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bruce a 13-0 shutout. The contest marked the Rams' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Tyler Hill made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Taylen Carter was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grant Parker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Vardaman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bruce only posted an OBP of .059.
Mantachie's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Vardaman, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Everything went Mantachie's way against Vardaman when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Mantachie made off with a 9-2 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
