League recap: Spatz breaks off league-leading run for Lacey Township

Kyle Spatz of Lacey Township ran for the longest rushing play in Shore - South A this season against Manchester Township last week. Spatz ran for 82 yards on the play and finished with 206 on the day as his team topped the Hawks.

Brick Memorial was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Neptune. The Mustangs came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 69 last week.

Lacey Township's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tom Kelly threw for 44 and two touchdowns and George Sayre had 36 yards receiving. Bill Belford helped Lacey Township's passing attack out by catching one ball for 27 yards.

Lacey Township's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Kelly has thrown for 769 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Christian Tutela has 11 catches for 316 yards. Spatz leads the league in rushing with 705 yards.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Lou Vircillo's team takes on Southern Regional. The Lions' offense has racked up 233 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Rams have allowed only 24 on the year.

A big matchup in Shore - South A this week will be when Toms River North takes on Brick Memorial. The Mariners are in third place, while Walter Currie's team is in second place.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Southern Regional takes on Lacey Township. Chuck Donohue Sr.'s team has allowed 24 points this season, while the Lions have given up 62.

Lacey Township extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Manchester Township, 54-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
