Basketball Recap: Orangefield Takes a Loss

If Orangefield was feeling good fresh off their 91-33 takedown of Hardin last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Orangefield Bobcats had to suffer through a 79-35 loss at the hands of the Kountze Lions. The Bobcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-16.

Orangefield's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carson Willis, who posted nine points, and Carson Gonzales, who scored seven points.

Even though they lost, Orangefield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Zac Sells, who went 7 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 38 points and six steals for Kountze. Sells has been hot for a while, having posted five or more steals the last 20 times he's played.

With the defeat, Orangefield broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-8. As for Kountze, their win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-2.

Orangefield and Kountze should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Orangefield (ranked 382nd) will meet Warren (ranked 1461st) at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Orangefield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. Similarly, Kountze will challenge Hardin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday up 1,335 places (91 vs. 1426).
