Softball Game Preview: Northgate Broncos vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils

The Northgate Broncos will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Mt. Diablo Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Diablo took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Northgate, who comes in off a win.

Northgate made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pittsburg, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Northgate never let Pittsburg get on the board and left with a 21-0 win on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Broncos.

Ashley Herman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Herman was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Mackenzie Hudson looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Stella Hanko was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Addison Baxter, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5.

Northgate hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in seven consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Diablo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 19-0 to Dougherty Valley.

Northgate's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Mt. Diablo, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
