Basketball Recap: Trona Takes a Loss

Trona is still winless after their contest against Baker on Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 33-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Baker Braves. The Tornadoes lost against the Braves in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 57-33 score last time.

Anthony Ortiz was his usual excellent self, going 7 of 12 en route to 17 points and four steals for Baker. What's more, Ortiz also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Alex Aguayo, who posted six points.

Trona's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Baker, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

Trona won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lee Vining at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Baker, they will head out to take on Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season.
