Soccer Game Preview: Culpeper County vs. James Monroe

The Culpeper County Blue Devils will square off against the James Monroe Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Culpeper County's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Tuesday, Culpeper County didn't have quite enough to beat Courtland and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that Culpeper County have lost by just one goal.

Meanwhile, James Monroe fell victim to Chancellor and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. While losing is never fun, James Monroe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Chancellor are ranked 63rd).

Culpeper County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-4-2 record this season. As for James Monroe, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7-1.

Culpeper County took their win against James Monroe in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 5-1 score. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Yellow Jackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
