Volleyball Recap: Horizon Hawks vs. The Academy Wildcats
After flying high against Riverdale Ridge on Saturday, Horizon came back down to earth. The Horizon Hawks lost 3-0 to The Academy Wildcats on Saturday.
The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: The Academy scored at least 21 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.
Despite the loss, Horizon still got an impressive performance from Sarah Vaness, who had 13 digs and three aces.
She wasn't the only good server: Horizon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're ace total in three consecutive matchups.
Leading The Academy to victory were Megan Duchlinski and Jaelyn Farmer. Duchlinski had 17 digs and two aces, while Farmer had eight digs and two aces. That's the most aces Duchlinski has posted since back in October of 2023.
Horizon has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for The Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Horizon is on the road again on Tuesday to play Broomfield at 6:30 p.m. Broomfield will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Horizon surely won't give up without a fight. As for The Academy, they will head out to challenge Prospect Ridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
