Softball Recap: Dedham Comes Up Short

Dedham dropped their record down to 6-4-1 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Norton Lancers, falling 15-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Marauders of the 12-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Dedham saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joslyn Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Norton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

On Norton's side, Liana Danubio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Danubio has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Norton got a massive performance out of Avery Tinkham, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Tinkham a new career-high. Avery Soares was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Dedham will head out to face off against Millis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mohawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.57 runs per game on average), something the Marauders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Norton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Norwood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Lancers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
