Hammond Morton took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against River Forest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Governors won by a set and slipped past the Ingots 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Governors as it put an end to their five-match losing streak.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (103-102) Hammond Morton actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 21-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-7.

Zoey Easton and Gracelyn Cordero certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Easton had 14 digs, while Cordero had ten kills, eight digs, and one block. Cordero is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last four games she's played. Hope Maldonado also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Hammond Morton's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for River Forest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-15.

Looking ahead, Hammond Morton will host Hammond Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for River Forest, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Griffith on the 25th.
