Preview: Alexander Central Cougars vs. South Caldwell Spartans
The Alexander Central Cougars and the South Caldwell Spartans will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Friday.
On Thursday, Alexander Central didn't have too much trouble with Foard on the road as they won 55-41.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alexander Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carter Fortner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Chad Lasher was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Caldwell beat Bunker Hill 63-55 on Thursday. Given South Caldwell's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Bunker Hill is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alexander Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for South Caldwell, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Alexander Central didn't have too much breathing room in their game against South Caldwell in their previous matchup back in February, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alexander Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
