Softball Recap: Indiana School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Indiana School for the Deaf had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it four. They lost 23-8 to the Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars. If the Deaf Hoosiers were looking for revenge after losing 11-6 to the Cougars when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jaiden Moses was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Miranda Macmonagle also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games.

On Greenwood Christian Academy's side, Alexus Kieninger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Kieninger was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elle Schnake, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarai Gabrielle Robertson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Indiana School for the Deaf will be playing in front of their home fans against Providence Cristo Rey at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.38 runs per game on average), something the Deaf Hoosiers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-5 loss against Oldenburg Academy on the 6th.
