Basketball Game Preview: Williston Red Devils vs. Hawthorne Hornets

Two dominant guards in De'Andre Harvey and Chasion Wilson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Williston Red Devils will challenge the Hawthorne Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Williston is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past Wildwood 75-40. The Red Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, everything went Hawthorne's way against Moore Haven on Wednesday as Hawthorne made off with a 54-32 victory. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Terriers are ranked 407th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hawthorne had a senior duo take command as Wilson went 7-for-10 to rack up 16 points along with eight boards and five steals and Kelvin Baker went 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. Wilson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Ingram, who posted seven points and three steals.

Hawthorne has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for Williston, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-11.

Williston didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Hawthorne in their previous matchup on Friday, but they still walked away with a 55-50 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wilson, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Williston still be able to contain Wilson? There's only one way to find out.
