Basketball Recap: Kal Tunnell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Custer County over Cotopaxi

Custer County entered their matchup against Cotopaxi on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Custer County Bobcats fell just short of the Cotopaxi Pirates by a score of 50-48. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kal Tunnell, who posted ten points along with eight boards and four steals. Those four steals gave Tunnell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grant Rusk, who had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Cotopaxi got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joel Tezak out in front who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 15 boards. Terrance Evans was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Custer County's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Cotopaxi, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Custer County will take on Crested Butte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cotopaxi, they have already played their next contest, a 50-48 win against Springfield on the 21st.
