Football Recap: McNeil Mavericks vs. Hutto Hippos
After only two points in their last contest, McNeil made sure to put some points up on the board against Hutto on Friday. The McNeil Mavericks enjoyed a cozy 42-24 win over the Hutto Hippos. The victory was familiar territory for the Mavericks who have now won three games in a row.
McNeil can attribute much of their success to Jarell Gary Jr, who picked up 38 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
McNeil was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hutto only rushed for 65.
Despite the loss, Hutto still got an impressive performance from Braeton Anderson, who picked up 81 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. What's more, Anderson also racked up nine rushing yards, the most he's had since back in October of 2023. Kaden Stefek also helped out by tossing the rock for 301 yards.
The win got McNeil back to even at 5-5. As for Hutto, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
McNeil will face off against Dripping Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hutto does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
