Softball Game Preview: Burgettstown Blue Devils vs. Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers

Burgettstown is 2-7 against Chartiers-Houston since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will square off against the Buccaneers at 4:15 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Burgettstown comes in on four and Chartiers-Houston on seven.

Burgettstown lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Fort Cherry, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Rangers on Monday. That's two games straight that the Blue Devils have won by exactly 15 runs.

Brooklyn Robinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Burgettstown let Raya Sentipal and Andi Midler run wild. Sentipal scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Midler scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Cameron Reddinger also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Burgettstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, while Chartiers-Houston put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Fort Cherry. The Buccaneers put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Buccaneers have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Burgettstown pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Chartiers-Houston, their record now sits at 7-0.

Burgettstown might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Chartiers-Houston in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
