Softball Game Preview: Willow Canyon Wildcats vs. Kellis Cougars

For the second straight game, Willow Canyon will face off against Kellis. The Wildcats will host the Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Willow Canyon has five straight victories, Kellis has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Willow Canyon's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Kellis 20-0. Considering the Wildcats have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Easton Spriggs made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mataya Olson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Jada Williams was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple.

Willow Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .378 or higher in seven consecutive matches.

Willow Canyon pushed their record up to 12-6-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Kellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
