Baseball Recap: Meadowbrook Starts Season with Win Against Thomas Jefferson

Meadowbrook took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Thomas Jefferson Vikings with a sharp 8-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Monarchs as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Nekhi Baird made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on NyJah Sherrod, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jaylin Hurlburt, who scored a run and stole Two bases.

Meadowbrook will face off against L.C. Bird at 5:00 p.m. on March 19th. As for Thomas Jefferson, they will take on Petersburg at 6:30 p.m. on March 19th.
