Basketball Game Preview: Cross Keys Phoenix vs. Howard Hawks

After both having extra time off, the Cross Keys Phoenix and the Howard Hawks will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Friday, Cross Keys lost to Walker at home by a 45-28 margin. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Heidy Perez, who posted 11 points. Those 11 points gave her a new career-high. Marta Reyes was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Howard was just a bucket shy of victory back in December of 2024 and fell 23-22 to Cross Keys. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Phoenix: they've now lost four in a row.

Cross Keys now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Howard, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-3.

Cross Keys won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, slipping by Howard 23-22. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cross Keys since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
