Softball Recap: Pacifica Finds Home Field Redemption Against Mission Viejo

There's no place like home for Pacifica, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They never let the Mission Viejo Diablos get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Friday. The Mariners were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Diablos, so the Mariners were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Ellena Ediss's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mattea Stern and Leyla Ayres did most of the damage at the plate: Stern scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Ayres went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those three hits gave Ayres a new career-high. Alyssa Holsted also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Pacifica pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mission Viejo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pacifica will take on Esperanza at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mission Viejo, they will host Tesoro at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
