Simpson broke the all-time Alabama state tournament record for blocks in a game in his dominant performance.

Junior Trey Simpson recorded an unforgettable stat-line in the Alabama Class 3A state title game, tallying 24 points, 23 rebounds and 15 blocks to guide Hillcrest (Evergreen) to a 52-28 victory over Midfield on Friday.

The 6-foot-7 forward had a triple-double by the end of the third quarter and shot 11-of-20 from the field in the dominant championship game effort to earn tournament MVP honors. Simpson's 15 blocks set the record for the most blocks in an Alabama state tournament game all-time.

Simpson led the team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and steals on the season as well, averaging 15.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.2 steals per game through the state quarterfinals. He shot 57 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line on the season.

Hillcrest finished the year with a record of 30-4 and were able to avenge their state semifinal loss to Midfield from a year ago. Midfield knocked off the Jaguars 67-50 on Feb. 28 last year to end their season. They captured the program's second state title in school history and first since 2006.

Simpson led a stifling Hillcrest defense as the Jaguars held Midfield to shoot just 18 percent from the field (9-of-49) and tallied a 53-32 advantage in the rebounding department.
