Baseball Game Preview: Von Steuben Panthers vs. Amundsen Vikings

Von Steuben is a perfect 5-0 against Amundsen since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will welcome the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Von Steuben is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Von Steuben took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Lincoln Park 6-5.

Axel Rivera and Kayin Timble did most of the damage at the plate: Rivera went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Timble went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Von Steuben is 5-0-1 when Timble posts two or more runs, but 5-10-1 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Amundsen didn't have quite enough to beat Lane Tech on Tuesday and fell 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Champions: they've now lost five in a row.

Von Steuben's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Amundsen, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-17.

Von Steuben was able to grind out a solid win over Amundsen when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 6-1. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
