Volleyball Recap: Fike Starts off Right with Win over Smithfield-Selma

Fike had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They won by a set and slipped past the Smithfield-Selma Spartans 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the Golden Demons' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Fike wouldn't go down easily and took Smithfield-Selma into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 25-19, 27-25, 22-25, 15-8.

Smithfield-Selma dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Fike will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Wake Prep Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will head out on the road to challenge Knightdale at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
