Softball Recap: Mattanawcook's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Mattanawcook entered their tilt with Houlton on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Shiretowners. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 two weeks ago.

Julianna Cloukey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Cyr, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Mattanawcook's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Houlton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Mattanawcook wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 11-3 win against Foxcroft Academy on the 5th. As for Houlton, they will challenge Dexter on Tuesday.
