Recap: Academy for Innovative Education Aviators vs. Downtown Doral Dolphins
The Academy for Innovative Education Aviators lost against the Downtown Doral Dolphins back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Academy for Innovative Education took a 27-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of Downtown Doral. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Academy for Innovative Education in their matchups with Downtown Doral: they've now lost three in a row.
Academy for Innovative Education's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexa Garofalo, who scored six points along with six steals and five rebounds. Garofalo hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Samantha Ayerdis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Downtown Doral found their leader in underclassman Isabella Osorno, who scored 11 points.
Academy for Innovative Education's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 5-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.8 points per game. As for Downtown Doral, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy for Innovative Education will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Somerset College Prepartory Academy South at 4:00 p.m. on January 25th. As for Downtown Doral, they will head out on the road to challenge Reagan at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Reagan has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
