Softball Game Preview: Martinsville Pirates vs. Shelbyville Dragons

Martinsville hasn't had much luck against Shelbyville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Martinsville will head out on the road to face off against Shelbyville at 5:30 p.m. Martinsville has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Martinsville fell victim to Broaddus and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 17-0 to the Bulldogs. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Shelbyville's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Joaquin. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Cadee Harley and Nicole Harvey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Harley went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Harvey went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Harvey has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kylie Snell, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Shelbyville lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Martinsville's record now sits at 1-9. As for Shelbyville, their record is now 12-8.

Martinsville might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Shelbyville when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Martinsville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
