Basketball Recap: Elbert County Comes Up Short

Elbert County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 66-52 bruising from the Athens Academy Spartans. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 55-54.

When it comes to explaining why Elbert County lost, don't look at Aj Brown. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 16 en route to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Brown's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Dealyn Gray, who posted seven points and 12 boards.

Elbert County's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Athens Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-10.

Elbert County has already played their next matchup, an 84-44 win against Stephens County on the 25th. As for Athens Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 79-45 defeat against Rabun County on the 25th.
