Basketball Recap: Rifle Comes Up Short

Rifle lost against Basalt back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Rifle Bears came up short against the Basalt Longhorns, falling 61-36. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Rifle lost, don't look at Adan Medina. Despite the final result, he posted 12 points.

Basalt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zealand Lane led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Elias Schendler was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.

Rifle has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Basalt, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Rifle has already played their next matchup, a 68-39 loss against Aspen on the 1st. As for Basalt, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-47 win against Moffat County on the 1st.
