Baseball Recap: West Valley Takes Down Yreka in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only West Valley walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Yreka Miners with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Manny Sleezer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Kale Springer was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Degan Palos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for West Valley and bumps their season record up to 21-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Yreka, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-15.

Coming up, West Valley will welcome Lassen at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Grizzlies will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight. Yreka does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
