Volleyball Recap: Kadence Miller and Kenlee Gault Secure Win for Columbus East

Columbus East won the last time they faced Shelbyville and things went their way on Monday too. The Olympians walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Golden Bears. The win was some much needed relief for the Olympians as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Columbus East had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-16.

Leading Columbus East to victory were Kenlee Gault and Kadence Miller. Gault had 12 assists and six digs, while Miller had eight digs and four aces. That's the most assists Gault has posted over her last seven contests. Izabella Rice also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good server: Columbus East was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. They are 3-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

Despite the loss, Shelbyville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addison Wooten had 26 digs. Those 26 digs set a new season-high mark for Wooten. Hayden Ricketts was another key player, getting 18 digs.

Columbus East's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Shelbyville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Columbus East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Fort Wayne Bishop Luers on the 13th. As for Shelbyville, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against New Castle on the 9th.
