Softball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Hope Christian's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Hope Christian hadn't done well against Bernalillo recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Huskies came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 9-4. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 15-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Iliana Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ella McFadden was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-4. Brooklyn Quanz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

McFadden wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Hope Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The Huskies are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hope Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Bernalillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hope Christian is set to challenge their familiar foe Albuquerque Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Bernalillo will face off against rival Del Norte at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
