Softball Recap: Nottoway Comes Up Short

Nottoway dropped to 6-4 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southampton Indians. Considering the last time the Cougars couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Southampton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.

For Southampton's part, not much got past Zoe Banks, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Nottoway off the board. Banks has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Southampton secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Charlee Powell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nottoway will welcome Buckingham at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southampton, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Sussex Central at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.22 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
