The Gilroy Mustangs will take on the Branham Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gilroy will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Branham's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Gilroy hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Gilroy never let Leigh get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by eight runs or more this season.
Ariela Yslava was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Gilroy got a massive performance out of Dani Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Wilson has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Bela Sousa was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
Gilroy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Branham's offense. They fell 5-0 to Willow Glen on Wednesday. The Bruins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jacque Connolly - Hojas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.
Gilroy's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Branham, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Branham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gilroy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Branham, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Gilroy's hitters?
Gilroy was able to grind out a solid win over Branham in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Will Gilroy repeat their success, or does Branham have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
