Preview: New Deal Lions vs. Olton Mustangs
New Deal is 8-1 against Olton since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Deal Lions will look to defend their home field against the Olton Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as New Deal comes in on three and Olton on four.
Last Thursday, New Deal strolled past Floydada with points to spare, taking the game 34-17. That's two games straight that New Deal has won by exactly 17 points.
Slade Martin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 133 yards and four touchdowns. Martin is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Sumner, who threw for 212 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Olton humbled Sundown with a 39-7 victory. The result was nothing new for Olton, who have now won four games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Olton found their leader in underclassman Isaiah Ruiz, who rushed for 148 yards and four touchdowns. Ruiz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Raymond Ramirez was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
New Deal's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-3. They've been dominating across those matchups too: they took their wins by an average of 35 points. Olton has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in six of their first seven games, giving them a 6-1 record.
Everything came up roses for New Deal against Olton in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-17 victory. Does New Deal have another victory up their sleeve, or will Olton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
