Basketball Recap: Westview Comes Up Short

Westview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were beaten by the Deer Valley Skyhawks 59-11. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Skyhawks are ranked 129th).

Deer Valley was led to victory by Anayiah Bellamy and Samantha Romero. Bellamy posted 14 points, while Romero dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Romero a new career-high in rebounds. Lilah Clark was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Westview's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Deer Valley, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-9.

Westview won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cactus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westview is facing Cactus at the right time seeing as Cactus is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Deer Valley, they will head out to square off against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
