Recap: D'Hanis Cowboys vs. Utopia Buffaloes
The D'Hanis Cowboys waltzed into their game Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They snuck past Utopia with a 58-53 victory. This was payback for D'Hanis, who suffered a 58-57 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Gabe Perez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. The match was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ruger Cote was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Utopia lost, one person who can't be blamed is Taylor Wiekamp. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Wiekamp scored a full 35.8% of Utopia's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Trey Mcfarlen, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
The victory got D'Hanis back to even at 6-6. As for Utopia, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8-1.
D'Hanis' road trip will continue as they head out to face Comstock at 1:30 p.m. on December 16th. Utopia and Brackett will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Brackett is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
