Basketball Recap: Drew Streich's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Norfolk over Millard South

Norfolk was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They took a 72-54 bruising from the Millard South Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Patriots are ranked 20th).

Norfolk lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Drew Streich, who posted 12 points and seven boards. Cohen Skiff also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Millard South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Koby Meyers, who went 7 for 10 to rack up 17 points and five rebounds. Meyers' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Carter Margheim was another key player, putting up eight points along with five assists and five steals.

Norfolk's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Millard South, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers challenge the Bearcats at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Kearney knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 matchups -- so hopefully Norfolk likes a good challenge. As for Millard South, they are taking a road trip to square off against Omaha Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Millard South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.6 points per game this season.
