Lufkin has gone 9-1 against Nacogdoches recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Dragons at 11:00 a.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Lufkin's offense. They came up short against Whitehouse on Thursday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Nacogdoches was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 19-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jacksonville. Even if the Dragons couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Arlette Castillo and Brylee Gatwood stepped up to the plate in a big way. Castillo got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs, while Gatwood went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikole Green, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Lufkin's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-13. As for Nacogdoches, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.

Lufkin was able to grind out a solid win over Nacogdoches in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 6-1. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
