Soccer Game Preview: Reed-Custer vs. Plano

The Reed-Custer Comets will square off against the Plano Reapers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Reed-Custer knows how to get goals on the board -- the squad has finished with four goals or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Plano likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Reed-Custer was able to grind out a solid victory over Streator, taking the game 4-2.

Gwen Stewart and Aurora Haake scored all four of the Comets' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Plano's offense. They fell just short of Marengo by a score of 1-0 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Plano can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Marengo are ranked 126th).

Reed-Custer's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Plano, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Reed-Custer took their victory against Plano when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-2 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Reapers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
