Basketball Recap: Unicoi County Takes a Loss

Unicoi County lost against Greeneville back in November of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Unicoi County Blue Devils lost to the Greeneville Greene Devils on the road by a 62-43 margin. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Greene Devils are ranked 51st).

Greeneville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maria Lyde out in front who went 8-for-9 on her way to 20 points and three steals. Lyde has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last eight times she's played. Julia Woolsey was another key player, putting up 12 points and six steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Unicoi County and nudges their season record down to 14-17. As for Greeneville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-10 record this season.

Unicoi County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Greeneville, they will head out on the road to face off against Tennessee at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Greeneville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.6 points per game this season.
