Basketball Recap: Sutton Comes Up Short

If Sutton was riding high fresh off their 49-27 takedown of Centura last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sutton Mustangs fell 58-49 to the Cross County Cougars on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.

Cross County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brock Allen led the charge by going 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thatcher Hanson, who posted 11 points and five steals.

Sutton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Cross County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Sutton and Cross County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Sutton (ranked 20th) will meet Centennial (ranked 78th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Cross County (ranked 44th) will meet Heartland (ranked 189th) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
